Do any of you remember Brad who worked with The Southern Bulb Company for two years? His new boss was extremely enthralled with his former job, so she purchased a crinum from us. We made sure that it was going to have plenty of sun and irrigation to grow fast and healthy and give her a bloom. For the past three years, I’ve been haunted by the fact that it has not bloomed for her yet!
I, of course, confirmed all of the necessary questions to ensure the bulb was being treated properly. Such questions must be phrased carefully, as to not sound accusing, condescending, defensive, or whatever else might be implied. She assured us all was done properly. It appears we were just facing the common problem that sometimes crinums need a little time to get settled in.
How delighted we were to have this good report from her two weeks ago! An e-mail and beautiful picture showed her Crinum ‘Bradley’ blooming right next to the bench where she planted it. The best part of it all?! It bloomed on her birthday! Happy birthday, Amy!
Rebecca and I recently cleaned out a shed on the farm that was storing some old junk we didn’t need any more. In there we found Brad’s old boots from the farm, and a box he had received from his wife (then girlfriend) with kid stickers plastered all over the sides, top, and bottom, of the box. That day we decided to add another shipment out the door along with the Southern Bulb orders. We decided to send Brad his boots (with the Southern Bulb dirt still on them), with the box, and a note telling him we were thinking of him and Katie.
