True Southern Hospitality

We have a great friend in Dallas who has opened up her home to me and my friends on several occasions. I love visiting her garden because there is a gate leading into a walled garden.  Every time I walk in there I am taken back by a magical world of blooming plants, a pond with a fountain, benches, and a little guest house that is made available to me when I am traveling through the area.  I have, over time, brought crinums to her from the farm, and she recently shared some pictures of them blooming.  Shown below are Crinum ‘Ellen Bosanquet’ and Crinum digweedii in full bloom, working in well with her other annuals and perennials.

More beautiful ‘Ellen Bosanquet’ pictures available  here.

Inside this home you will see one of Ann Swan’s drawings, Bulbs in a Line—one that has been praised as her best of the collection.  It was a gift to our friend, as she opened up her house to welcome Ann the artist when she flew over from London. She graciously hosted a reception and party for Ann.  Four years later she opened up her house again, this time to host a wedding shower for Rebecca and I.  We dined outside that evening, and the weather was so pleasant, and flowers so fragrant, that at 11PM we had to begin to thank everyone for coming and start walking towards the house and then the front door.  What an amazing night!
