We had dinner tonight at a couple’s house with the last name Ball–they’re originally from Mississippi and their house was filled with interesting old pieces from the small town where they worked and grew up. When I walked into one room, I felt like something was staring at me…sure enough, there were a lot of dolls peering at me from where they perched inside an old wooden display case from an old fashioned (shutdown long ago) drug store. The wooden pieces and other old decor in the house all worked together to give a charming Southern feel to the relatively new house. Unfortunately, the garden tour to see the stick verbena (Verbena bonariensis) among other plants didn’t happen until AFTER dinner, pie, and Bluebell ice cream. After my failed attempts at garden photos, we drove home enjoying the show put on by the lightning. I’m stuffed now and ready for bed!
