Last week I had the honor of speaking to the Herb Society of America Pioneer Unit in Brenham, TX. I had a wonderful time in the Round Top area, including a very nice margarita at Los Patrones (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Los-Patrones/266211846746281) followed by a twilight tour of Fesitval Hill (http://www.festivalhill.org/) and the Cloister Garden. Hard to believe all of this is tucked away in the middle of a rural Texas community with a population of around 90.

The Cloister Garden, thanks to many volunteers and the hard work of Henry Flowers and staff, looked wonderful. I was delighted to see a stunning patch of Easter lilies in full bloom. Most folks think Easter lilies are only for pots during the Easter season, but if you plant them outside in the Southern US they will normally get into a rhythm of blooming in early to mid-May around Mother’s Day.

Also, below you’ll see a nice display of Allium bulbs from my host’s garden. They were stunning. The white crinum are from the Southern Bulb farm that we cut and took home for the week. It was almost chilly here in Tyler, so we had a fire and enjoyed them outside!
