Do red spider lilies attract bees?

No, they don’t really attract bees in a big way; however…. red spider lilies (Lycoris radiata) are found to be quite captivating by many! While you get to enjoy the beautiful blooms in your garden, there are several other creatures that love them just as much. These gorgeous blooms attract a variety of pollinators to your garden, which is just as fun to watch as your flowers themselves.

The top 3 pollinators that you can expect to see on your spider lilies are:

  1. Butterflies! These vibrant blooms are quite tempting to several different species of butterfly, including the sulphur butterfly.
  2. Hummingbirds! These speedy little guys cannot help but stop by to visit when they see red spider lilies in bloom.
  3. Moths! Moths cannot get enough of these stunning flowers and pollinate them whenever they get the chance. You can expect to see a lot of these interesting pollinators in your garden when you have red spider lilies.

While these may not be the number one flower that attracts bees, they bring in all sorts of other pollinators which make them a perfect addition to your yard.

    1. They do! But I love them as well, and once they are in the habit of blooming all seems to be forgiven. Thanks for writing in!

  1. When I was growing up in the 1970’s there was a yard down the street that was ablaze with Spider Lilies every Fall. I was amazed. I don’t think any grow there now. I’m anxious to plant some in my daughter’s memory garden.

    1. Thanks for sharing Penny! Ours are blooming in our gardens right now, and they bring so much harmony to our changing seasons (in the garden and life). They take a few years to really feel at home before they bloom well, and it sounds like they are finding a great long term home in your garden.
